THE POWER IN THE WORD!!!
THE WORD OF GOD SHARPER
THAN ANY TWO EDGED SWORD
God’s power is revealed and experienced in His Word. Only the true word of God has any power, only
knowledge based on God’s word will produce a genuine experience of God and His
power. “The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged
sword piecing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of joints
and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intent of the heart.” (Heb. 4:12). The
word of God has the power to reveal to us certain things that we could not know
in any other way i.e., the true nature of God, How and when the world was
created. God’s word gives us an eyewitness, truthful, and detailed account of
things about God and human existence that we could never know otherwise or by
our own power. See (Ps.33:6),” By
the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the
breath of His mouth. By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the
word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which
are visible.” (Heb. 11:3). And
Apostle Peter says, (2Peter 3:5), “For this they willfully forget; that by the word of God the heavens
were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water.”
THE WORD OF GOD HAS POWER
TO JUDGE OUR HEARTS AND CONVICTS TO REPENTANCE
The word of God has got power both to judge our hearts and
at the same time heals the wounded souls or the sick. As seen in the above
paragraph or in(
Heb 4:12) it do states how the
word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two- edged sword
piecing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow and
is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. During Peter’s sermon at Pentecost (Acts 2:14-36) there
was a forceful proclamation of Jesus as Lord and Messiah, substantiated by the
abundance reference of the Scriptures. His preaching style was similar to that
of the Apostle Paul, who “reasoned with them from the Scriptures” when he went
to the synagogue (17:2). Peter
demonstrated from Psalms 16 and 110 that David was speaking of Christ, and not
himself. Such preaching was very effective because the word came “in power and
in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance” (1 Thess. 1:5). The
effect of the truth upon their consciences is described in the phrase, “cut
to the heart.” V 37 Peter’s
plain preaching had resulted in pain of conscience. Their desperate perplexity
resulted in the question, “What must we do to be saved?” Conviction of sin resulted in a serious
search for an answer. The Philippian jailer who came under conviction of sin (16:30) also
asked, “What must I do to be saved?” Some consciences of sin are an
indispensible prerequisite to conversion. The Scriptures which reveal Christ as the only
hope for sinners are God’s instrument for leading people to acknowledge their
need and seek Christ for salvation.
THE WORD OF GOD HAS POWER
TO HEAL AND GIVE US NEW BIRTH
In (Ps.107:20) God sent His word and healed His
people and delivered them from all their destructions when they were afflicted
from all corners by their enemies because they rebelled against God. As
believers or born again Christians, we ought to be like the centurion to
believe the power that is in the word of God. He felt in his heart that he was
not worthy to receive Christ in his house, thus requesting the Lord Jesus only
to speak a word and his servant would be healed. His faith, made him believe that
there is power in a spoken word from the Lord Himself. (Matt. 8:8). The word of God is
able to bring comfort, hope, healing as well as strength and encouragement to
those who are in sorrow and are suffering. Whatever faith or faithfulness a
person has, when they are at the point of death, the family expects and needs
to hear words of encouragement that comes from God’s word. “Of
His own truth He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind
of firstfruits of His creatures.” (Jas.1:18). “Having
been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of
God which leaves and abide forever”, (1 Peter
1:23). The word of God had the power to grow or cause growth to
happen. The word planted in an honest and obedient heart can produce physical
acts which can both be seen and felt.
THE WORD OF GOD HAS POWER TO LEAD US TO FAITH
The power in the word of God lifts the believer’s faith, making
him/her believe that there is a performance of the word. The centurion had that kind of faith that made
him believed that there was no need of the Lord to walk it all the way to his
house yet the faith he had was able to
perform the word from whichever angle.
How many of us as Christians today lack faith, such that when our loved
ones fell sick; instead of believing the power to perform the miraculous
healing, we still expect the servants of God to accompany us to our homes to
lay hands on the sick. Apostle Paul tells us in (Rom. 10:17) that “faith
comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” If only we have faith
and believe the power in the word, then there is its manifestation and performance
as well. Heaven and earth will pass
away, but God’s word will by no means pass away (Mark 13:31). This should show us the effect and power that
lies within the word. The word of God is forever alive whether you and I
believe it or not. God’s word planted in
human hearts generation after generation has produced Christians and the New
Testament church century after century. The only actual thing we hand down from
generation to generation is God’s word contained in the Bible. People die and
buildings fall apart, But His word unfailingly produces the same thing every
century.
THE WORD OF GOD HAS POWER
TO SAVE US AND MAKE US HOLY
All of Scripture, in its totality and its part, is a means
to an end and an instrument for a purpose. It is not a goal in itself but has
its grand objective the equipment of man for God’s service. It is freely
produced by human writers, but its original Author Is God Himself. Through the
service of human writers God breathed out the Scriptures so that they are not
only human words, but simultaneously and ultimately the very utterances of God.
Inspiration dose not just pertain to the person who penned Scripture. Neither is
it restricted narrowly to the “spiritual” realities, which are the central and essential
content of Scripture. Inspiration encompasses every word and all the words of
the sacred writings. Therefore, the Scriptures are fully consistent and inerrant,
authoritative, and trustworthy, in everything that they assert, in every area
that they address and in every way that they speak. As such they are perfectly
suited to reach their intended objectives. (2 Tim.3:15-17) And
in (Acts
20:32) Apostle Paul commend all the brethren to God and to the word
of His grace which is able to build up and give an inheritance among all those
who are sanctified. (Eph.5:26) says, “Christ loved the church and gave Himself
for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by
the word.”
THE WORD OF GOD HAS THE
POWER TO FIGHT AGAINST SATAN
Apostle Paul urges us from (Eph. 6:17) that we take the helmet
of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Even the devil
knows and understands very well the power in the word of God such that when we
apply the word in our daily lives, I assure you, he will surrender and you
become a conqueror. Remember Satan’s three incidents tempting Jesus when He was
4o days from the wilderness. Jesus’
response was “It is written” therefore, when we equip ourselves and enriched
by the word of God, Satan has got no choice but surrender to the power from the
quoted word of God. I therefore urge all the brethren to be strong in the Lord
and in the Power of His might and stand against every wales of the devil. In (Rev. 19:13-15) assures us that the Son of God
was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called “The
Word of God.” And the armies in heaven clothed in fine linen, white and
clean, followed Him on white horses. And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword,
that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a
rod of iron. And He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of
the Almighty God.
THE ENDURING POWER IN THE WORD OF GOD
The Scriptures contrast the frailties of human life with the
unchanging stability of the Word of God (Is. 40:6-8). “All flesh is like grass, and all its
loveliness is like flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades
because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass. The
grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.” “Change and decay in all around I see,” observes the hymn
writer. God and His changeless Word alone remain the same. “Jesus
Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”
(Heb. 13:8). Temporal life is
fundamentally and ultimately insecure. Our stability and certainty can be
derived only from God. His Word is forever settled in heaven (Ps. 119:89). Though
the Christians regards the created world in itself as good it comes from the
hand of the Creator, the fact remains that” the form of this world is passing
away” (Cor
7:31). Even the heavens and the earth will one day be dismantled (2Peter 3:7,
11). But the will of God, which comes to expression in the living
and abiding Word of God is permanent reality that will continue throughout time
and eternity.
THE POWER IN KNOWING GOD’S
WORD
We are all models. By our behavior we influence either for
good or evil, toward truth or away from it. Anyone in a position of leadership
in life has a special influence. Ezra was following God’s command in making his
first occupation the study and practice and teaching of God’s law. The same
instruction is given us. In order to obey God’s commands, we must know what
they are; this begins with heeding the admonition to read, to study, and even
more to practice His Word. “The good hand of His God” was upon
Ezra (Ezra
7:9-10), for he had “prepared his heart to seek the law of the
Lord.” Following in Ezra’s footsteps will bring that same blessing of the good
hand of God upon us. Even more we will be able to teach His Word, spread the
blessings, and bring others to the Lord through our example and teaching.
Parting shot: May we obey
a gracious, all sufficient God and set our hearts to know and practice His
Words and laws in our lives. The Psalmist
prayed to God to give Him understanding, for keeping God’s law, and indeed he
promised to observe it with his whole heart. (Ps. 119:34). As the Psalmist, let’s
tap into God’s power by reading His Word on a regular basis; respond to it in
obedience and last but not least spreading the Word to the uttermost parts of
the world. Amen.
“Grace to you and Favor from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ be with you all, Amen.”
